CHALLENGE

Rising costs and outdated infrastructure

Shiner’s operations were hit hard by both Brexit and the COVID-19 pandemic, which disrupted supply chains and increased operating costs. On top of this, the business had a poor relationship with its existing managed service provider (MSP), leaving key infrastructure under-maintained and vulnerable. The ageing hardware and firewalls no longer provided the performance or security needed, and escalating costs created additional pressure on the business.

SOLUTION

Modern, secure infrastructure deployment

We replaced Shiner’s ageing private Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) platform with a robust three-host and SAN environment in a modern colocation data centre. Legacy hardware was removed, and outdated firewalls were replaced with Fortinet’s latest FortiGate technology, configured in a high-availability stack to ensure uninterrupted protection. To enhance security, Shiner adopted our Cyber Security Managed Service, ransomware protection and recovery tools, and advanced disaster recovery solutions. The team also leveraged existing Microsoft licensing and integrated endpoint detection and response (EDR) for improved coverage.

Shiner achieved a refreshed, high-performing infrastructure that is both secure and cost-effective. Operational expenditure was reduced by eliminating legacy systems and optimising the new environment.
